Not every practicing lawyer can become a civil celebrant. A civil celebrant must fulfill the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At least 7 years of working experience as a lawyer<\/li>\n<li>Currently holding a practicing certificate<\/li>\n<li>Not subjected to a disciplinary action by professional bodies for the past 3 years<\/li>\n<li>Complete the required training as a civil celebrant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row type=&#8221;container&#8221; padding_top=&#8221;&#8221; padding_bottom=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column][vc_separator color=&#8221;#666666&#8243; type=&#8221;normal&#8221; thickness=&#8221;&#8221; up=&#8221;&#8221; down=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row type=&#8221;container&#8221; padding_top=&#8221;&#8221; padding_bottom=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]2. \u00a0Q: What is the procedure for solemnizing a marriage?<\/p>\n<p>A: Grooms and brides-to-be should decide the wedding date, time and venue, then select and contact a civil celebrant. They should go to a law firm to fill in a Notice of Intended Marriage at least 3 months before their intended marriage, and provide the following information to the civil celebrant:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The couple\u2019s Hong Kong identity card or travel documents<\/li>\n<li>The couple\u2019s parents\u2019 name in Chinese and English<\/li>\n<li>The couple\u2019s address, phone number and occupation<\/li>\n<li>The marital status of the couple (whether unmarried, widow, widower, divorced or adopted any forms of marriage in the past)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The civil celebrant of marriages will submit the Notice of Intended Marriage to the Registrar of Marriages.
